Sports Roundup: Huskies, Bullpups bow out of playoffs

BAKERSFIELD — Hanford’s baseball season came to an end on Wednesday in a 3-0 loss to No. 8 seed Bakersfield in the first round of the CIF Central Section Division II playoffs.

The No. 9 seed Bullpups (13-12, 6-4 WYL) allowed a run in the third inning and two in the fourth. Dominic McLaughlin had two of the five hits for the Bullpups.

Hanford will graduate six seniors, but return some of their top players in Juaron Watts-brown and Trey Knight. The Bullpups finished third in the West Yosemite League.


BAKERSFIELD — Hanford West lost a narrow 1-0 contest to Stockdale in the CIF Central Section Division I playoffs on Thursday.

With a 0-0 game, the Mustangs pushed their first and only run of the game across home plate in the bottom of the sixth inning on a squeeze bunt.

The No. 6 seed Huskies (19-10, 9-3 CSL) struggled at the plate all day against the No. 3 seed Mustangs (25-5, 14-1 SYL). Allison Heffley had a two-out single in the first inning. It was the only hit of the game for Hanford West.

Maddie Shimmin drew a walk in the second inning to represent their second and final baserunner. Shimmin pitched six innings and allowed one run on two hits and two walks.

The Huskies finished tied for second place in the Central Sequoia League.
