HANFORD — Sierra Pacific advanced to the quarterfinals after a 53-30 victory over Reedley on Tuesday.
Lauren Zantos led the Golden Bears with 13 points and added five rebounds and one assist in the CIF Central Section Division IV first-round game. Celeste Lewis scored 11 points with six rebounds and three assists.
The No. 3 seed Golden Bears (24-5, 12-0 ESL) held the Pirates to three points in the first quarter and led 25-12 at halftime.
Sierra Pacific moves on to face No. 11 seed Madera South (13-15, 5-5 CML) today at 7 p.m. The Stallions upset the Vikings, 57-56, on Tuesday.
Boys Tennis
HANFORD — The defending CIF Central Section Division IV champions began their season today with a 5-4 scrimmage victory over Mt. Whitney.
The Division III Pioneers gave all the Golden Bears could handle in the singles by splitting the matches 3-3. It was in doubles, where Sierra Pacific always excels, that they earned the win.
The No. 2 doubles team of Marco Diaz and Joshua Wilson won 8-2 and No. 3 doubles of Nick Brockie and Jacob Bueno won 8-3.
In singles, No. 2 Jackie Gong won 8-5 along with No. 5 Wilson (8-3) and No. 6 Bradley Chounlamountry (8-4).
Sierra Pacific is looking to win their fourth consecutive East Sequoia League title this season after an undefeated 2018 season and back-to-back Valley titles.
