Former Lemoore High standout David Ausberry has signed with the Detroit Lions.
Ausberry, who helped lead the Tigers to their only Central Section title in school history, played four seasons with the Oakland Raiders but had injuries limit his chances on the field.
After being named the starting tight end, Ausberry missed the entire 2013 season and played in just six games in 2014, catching two passes for 14 yards. He has 11 career catches for 120 yards.
Ausberry, 27, will be in his fifth NFL season. After graduating from Lemoore in 2006, he played in college at USC before being selected in the seventh round (241st overall) in the 2011 NFL Draft.
The Lions return their top three tight ends from last year – Eric Ebron, Brandon Pettigrew and Fauria -- and also have Jordan Thompson and undrafted rookie Casey Pierce in camp.
The team released safety Nate Lindsey to make room for Ausberry on the 90-man roster.
