Buccaneers sweep individual championships

AVENAL — The Avenal High School Cross-Country team swept all four individual champions on Nov. 8 at the West Sierra League championship meet at Rice Park. Both Buccaneers boys teams took their respective team titles with varsity boys individual champion Mohammed Ali winning the league title for the fourth straight year with a time of 16 minutes and 19 seconds.

Avenal’s varsity team scored 19 points to runner-up Coalinga’s 46 points. Times: Freshman Angel Salcedo 3rd in 16:58, Gonzalo Gutierrez 4th in 17:03, Juan Martinez 5th in 17:07, Alan Rangel 6th in 17:18, Alexis Sanchez 7th in 17:38 and Jaime Bravo 10th in 17:56.

Senior Jeorgina Torres completed her West Sierra League career winning the varsity girls title running the 3-mile course in 21:52.

Big Monday Bash tickets on sale

COALINGA — Tickets are on sale now for the 17th annual Big Monday Bash basketball fundraiser, which will be held on Dec. 4 at the Coalinga Elks Lodge. This annual fundraiser benefits the West Hills College Coalinga basketball team.

“The Big Monday Bash has become one of the largest social gatherings in Coalinga,” said Mark Arce, head basketball coach. “The dinner is our biggest men’s basketball’s fundraiser and is used to help buy uniforms, practice gear and equipment.”

Tickets are $140 each, which includes dinner for two and a shot at winning a trip to the NCAA Final Four. There will be a no-host bar with cocktails beginning at 5:30 p.m. and dinner served at 7 p.m.

Attendees will earn a chance to win a trip for two to the NCAA Final Four in San Antonio, Texas. Airfare, ticket and hotel expenses are included.

Assorted raffle prizes will also be up for grabs.
