MADERA — The Selma baseball team dropped to 2-4 for the season after losing on the road to Madera South High School in a 4-3 final on March 10.
After Selma went 3-2 in the top of the third inning, Madera South tied the game in the bottom half of the inning. In the next three innings, the game remained 3-3 until Madera South scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
The loss is the Bears third in four games. Selma last won in a 5-0 victory over Reedley High School on the road on March 7.
Central Sequoia League play will begin for the Bears on the road against Exeter on March 16. Selma will have its first home league game against Dinuba at 7 p.m. on March 20.
CLOVIS — The Kingsburg softball team dropped both games of a double-header as part of a tournament hosted by Buchanan High School on March 10.
Kingsburg lost 2-0 to Redwood and 4-2 to Sanger High School. The defeat extended the Vikings losing streak to five-straight games.
Currently, Kingsburg is 2-6 after a 2-1 start. In the game against Sanger, the Vikings had seven hits as team with multiple players contributing. Marissa Montelongo, Marissa Gonzalez, Taryn Irigoyen, Kahila Jensen, Catiylin Vela and Blaire Wilson each had hits.
Montelongo went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Gonzalez and Jensen each had an RBI single.
In the game against Redwood, Irigoyen tossed a complete game as the starting pitcher, but allowed two runs on six hits in a losing effort for Kingsburg. Offensively, the Vikings only had three hits against Rangers starter Emily Ibarra, who tossed a complete game for Redwood.
Next up for Kingsburg is a road matchup against Clovis West on March 20 that is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start.
Selma Aqua Bears
Registration for the Selma Aqua Bears will be held at the Selma High School pool on April 6 and April 20-21. On April 6 and April 21, registration will be held from 6-8 p.m. On April 21 registration will be from 9-11 a.m.
The registration fee is $110 and $90 for siblings. A late registration fee of $15 will start on May 1. The team is open for ages 4-18 who can swim at least the length of the pool.
A women's-only volleyball recreational league in Kingsburg is holding registration. The league will begin in June and run until August. It will be the second season for the all-women's league.
Games for the league will be played on Sundays. Last season, games were played at the Kingsburg High School gym.
