Kids' recreation program: Kingsburg’s Summer Recreation Program is underway and runs through August. The program is 12:30-5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday at Kingsburg High’s rooms 84 and 85. Cost is $230 for the summer, per child, or $130 per month. The program is for children ages transitional kindergarten through eighth-grade. Activities include arts, crafts, movies, field trips, swimming and snacks. Summer lunch is offered through the Fresno County Economic Opportunities Commission. Congressman David Valadao’s office hours: A member of Congressman David Valadao’s staff will be available from 1:30-2:30 p.m. today, June 13, at the Selma District Chamber of Commerce office, 1821 Tucker St., to provide assistance regarding issues with federal agencies in any way they can. Valadao cannot override the decisions made by a federal agency, but he can intervene on a person’s behalf to answer questions, find solutions, or just help cut through the red tape. World Elder Abuse Awareness Day: June 15, 10 a.m. to noon, Fresno Convention Center, 2233 Ventura St., Fresno. Law enforcement, elected officials, government agencies and community benefit organizations will be joining together to discuss the effects of elder abuse in Fresno and Madera Counties. Flag retirement: The Kingsburg Boy Scouts Troop #392 are hosting a flag retirement ceremony at 9 a.m. at Holy Family Church Park, 1279 Smith St. The community is welcomed to bring flags to retire and observe the ceremony. American Flags will be retired in honor of Flag Day and to honor local Veterans.

Swedish camp: Mats Hellgren, a Fresno Pacific graduate student who recently moved from Sweden to Clovis, is offering a Swedish Summer Camp for children. Attendees will learn about the Swedish language and culture during the week-long sessions. Camp takes place at Colony Covenant Church 11474 S. Movies in the Park: Selma Chamber of Commerce is hosting two family movie nights in the park. "Coco" will be shown on July 13 and another to-be-announced movie will be shown on July 27 and start at 7 p.m. Movies will be shown at Lincoln Park. There is no charge to attend the shows and snacks will also be free. Entertainment and refreshments will be available prior to the movie, which will begin at nightfall.
