The City of Hanford is revving up for the Holiday Season with not only the Winter Wonderland skate rink at Civic Park, but also with the return of their annual Hanford Chamber Christmas Parade. Last year, the virus put a hamper on what is annually considered a local mainstay, relegating it to a drive-thru even with only 12 participants.

The vision of yesteryear was a vibrant downtown with loads of shops and entertainment that is anchored by service-based industries. Therein lies the flaw. A downtown that’s turned into a financial district which reflects those very hours; nine-to-five and closed on weekends.

Tickets go on sale on Friday at 9:00 a.m. at $40/person. Over 30 businesses from around Hanford will be staying open past closing time to participate, offering discounts, cocktail samples, photo opportunities and other activities. Goodie bags will also be given out with items from five to six businesses taking part in the event.

When customers enter Salmon’s Furniture in Downtown Hanford, the first thing they see is a large water fountain made of red bricks. On the wall, more red bricks line the entrance carrying the names of donors. The fountain and the “Wall of Fame” are all that’s left of the old building, and they tell a story of both tragedy and rebirth.
