BAKERSFIELD — Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Bakersfield, officially endorsed Assemblyman David Valadao Friday for Congress in the 21st Congressional District.

McCarthy is majority whip in the House of Representatives.

In February, Valadao achieved “contender” status in the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Young Guns program, which identified promising candidates for funding and support. The “contender” status is the third of four steps in the program.
