A bicyclist suffered life-threatening injuries Monday after he was hit by a car in south Hanford, the Hanford Police Department said.

Police responded to the crash around 6:50 p.m. near 12th Avenue south of Hanford Armona Road. The 62-year-old bicyclist was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

Traffic officers determined the vehicle was driving southbound on 12th Avenue from the Circle K store. The bicyclist was riding southbound against traffic on 12th Avenue when he suddenly crossed to the west side of the street into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

Police said drugs or alcohol do not appear to have been a factor.
