Robert D. Castro
August 15, 1955 to November 4, 2018
Robert “Rob” D. Castro was born on August 15, 1955 in Fresno to Joe and Adela Castro. He passed away on November 4, 2018 in Visalia with his family by his side.
Rob attended elementary school in Fresno and Laton, graduated from Hanford High School in 1974 and Cal Poly State University at San Luis Obispo in 1980. Upon his college graduation he returned to Hanford and began his business, R-n-R Welding, with his wife Renee. Rob represented the Cal Poly “Learn by Doing” motto and over the years built his business into a Structural Steel and Metal Building contracting operation. Rob took on many challenging construction projects around our valley and was proud when his son, Scott, decided to join the business after graduating from Fresno State in 2014.
Rob was a past member of the Hanford Little League and Kit Carson School Board. He got the soccer bug after coaching his daughter's Under 10 team. This nurtured his love for the “Beautiful Game.” He coached soccer for Hanford YSL, South Valley United, Odyssey South, and the Hanford High Girls Varsity teams. He was a competitive coach and especially committed to his “Crossfire” teams. Rob was active in the soccer community at various levels and volunteered his time in developing the Soc-Com soccer complex. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and travelling but most of all spending time with his family.
Robert is survived by his wife of 42 years, Renee and their four children: Nicole (Jesse) Tafolla, Robert M. (Sarah) Castro, Amy Castro, Scott (Bronte) Castro. He is “Papa” to seven precious grandchildren: Ethan, Noah, and Olivia Tafolla; Lola and Adela Castro; Chloe Subia; and a grandson due in February 2019.
