Mary Elizabeth Rosenthal, 85, passed away at home on November 7, 2018. Mary was born February 12, 1933 in Fremont, Nebraska to Eileen and Raymond Hebert. She was the eldest of four children.
Upon graduation from Holy Name High School, Mary worked as a Tele-typist in downtown Omaha, Nebraska until 1953 when she met the love of her life, Joseph Rosenthal. In December 1954, after he returned from a seven month deployment they wed at St. John's Catholic Church. Mary then started her 23-year career as a devoted Navy wife, mother and volunteer. In 1961, Mary and Joe moved to Naval Air Station Lemoore which would become their permanent home.
Mary's love for the community and eagerness to serve drove her passion for volunteering. She volunteered well over 20,000 hours at Sacred Heart Hospital which later became Central Valley General Hospital as the Gift Shop Manager. Along with managing the Gift Shop she was an active member of the Auxiliary Board where she became a lifetime member. Although most of her volunteer time was spent at the hospital, Mary dedicated many years to Mary Immaculate Queen School, the Fleet Reserve Association- Branch 261, Hanford Women's Bowling Association, Military Order of the Turtles Auxiliary- Hut 36, and Hanford Elks Lodge. When she was not volunteering, Mary could be found attending one of the many events her grandchildren were involved in.
