Maria “Mary” Pereira
June 22, 1939 – December 4, 2018
Maria “Mary” Pereira was born June 22, 1939 in Feteira, Terceida in the Azorean Islands to Manuel G. and Maria J. Silva. She immigrated to the Hanford area with her husband and young family in 1966 and made Hanford, California her primary residence. Mary was accompanied by angels as she was welcomed into heaven by Our Heavenly Father on December 4, 2018 after a brief illness.
Mary worked for over forty years at the Contadina Plant in Hanford serving in a variety of capacities – production, equipment operation, sanitation, and general management. Simultaneously, she and her husband, Joao, owned and operated a dairy farm. Mary retired from Contadina at the age of 72 years old.
Mary was an active member in her church community – a member of the St. Brigid Catholic Church and bible study; a regular volunteer at the St. Vincent de Paul Center; and was a faithful participant in the Adoration every Monday and Friday. Mary was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed attending the annual Festas in the local Portuguese community.
Mary loved life to the fullest and enjoyed a variety of activities such as gardening, reading, sewing, and crocheting. She was a friend to everyone that she met. She was totally devoted to her family, and especially her two grandchildren. She especially enjoyed in sharing in their activities and their successes. Through sheer determination and fortitude, she was able to meet her first great grandchild, Brooklyn, born on November 7th. Mary experienced joy in everyday living and was a blessing to everyone who knew and loved her. She will be greatly missed.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Manuel G. and Maria J. Silva; her husband, Joao Pereira; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Frank and Arlene Pereira; her brother-in-law, Manuel Coelho all of Hanford; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe and Evangelina Pereira of Winton.
