Imogene Grisso, 90, of Hanford, passed away Sunday, November 4, at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, CA.
Born August 3, 1928 in Alma, Arkansas to Fred & Mildred Cooper, Imogene moved with her family to California in 1936. They settled in Hanford, where she attended local schools, graduating from Hanford High School in 1946.
Imogene's parents preceded her in death in 1965 and 1982, respectively. She was also preceded in death on December 3, 2014 by her husband, Henry L. (Lloyd) Grisso, as well as by her brother, Raymond Cooper, in 2002, and by her sisters Betty Smith, in 1994, and Pauline Haynes, in 2012.
Imogene and Lloyd were married in Hanford on December 26, 1945. They were married 69 years.
Imogene is survived by her daughter, Karen Swearingen, and her husband, David, of Abilene, TX, and by her son, Gary Grisso, and his wife, Paulette, of Hesperia, CA. In addition, Imogene is survived by her brother, Lester (Red) Cooper, and his wife, Margie, of Hanford. Other survivors include six grandchildren – Dawne Meeks, Ryan Swearingen, Jeff Grisso, Mike Grisso, Jessica Trujillo, and Matt Grisso, their families and eight great-grandchildren.
Imogene was a homemaker and stay-at-home mother to her children, which provided her with great personal satisfaction and fulfillment. Later, she worked for more than 10 years as a professional seamstress and provided clothing alterations at Case's Department Store in Hanford, a well-respected ladies retail clothing store. Previously, Imogene worked at Hanford Community Hospital in Obstetrics as a nurse's aid.
Together with her husband, Lloyd, Imogene was a life-long resident of Hanford and a faithful member of the Hanford Church of Christ for more than 75 years.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 13 at the Hanford Church of Christ, 1596 W Grangeville Rd. (12th Ave. & Grangeville Rd.). Services and burial are under the direction of People's Funeral Home, of Hanford. Interment will be at Grangeville Cemetery, in Armona, following the service.
