Darlene Cope of Lemoore passed away in a Tulare hospital on Friday, December 7th at the age of 78. Darlene was born in Oklahoma and moved to Kettleman City with her family in the late 40's. She graduated from Lemoore High School and afterwards went and worked at Yosemite where she had the opportunity to meet John F. Kennedy. She met her future husband while she was a waitress at Superior Dairy in Lemoore after he had returned from Vietnam. Darlene lived most of her life in the Hanford and Lemoore area. Darlene enjoyed doing crafts, sewing and cooking but she especially loved being with her children and grandchildren. She was a very sociable person and enjoyed talking with everyone. Darlene had a love for the mountains and would often return to visit Yosemite.
Darlene is survived by her 3 sons: Robert White of Lemoore, Ronald Oxford of Visalia and Roger Oxford of Lemoore, 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, brother Herman Cope of Coalinga, an aunt in Arkansas and her ex-husband Claude Oxford. She was prece3ded in death by her grandson Ryan Oxford and her parents James and Vivian Cope.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 28 at 10:00 A.M. at Phipps-Dale Funeral Chapel in Lemoore with burial to follow at Lemoore Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Darlene's memory to Valley Animal Haven, 990 E. D St., Lemoore, CA 93245.
