HANFORD — State Assembly candidate Justin Mendes recently received several endorsements and accolades.

Mendes received the endorsements of the Kern County Farm Bureau, Kings County Farm Bureau and the PAC for the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB).

Mendes, a Valley native, was raised on a dairy farm.

“Support from the Kings County Farm Bureau and Kern County Farm Bureau is a reminder that ag is a family that stands together,” Mendes said when he announced the endorsements. “I am proud to earn their endorsement, but more importantly, I am proud to represent hard working farmers, ranchers and dairymen across the Central Valley.”

According to its website, the NFIB is the voice of small business, advocating on behalf of America’s small and independent business owners.

In their endorsement release, NFIB said candidates were endorsed "based on their high voting record alignment with NFIB/CA positions and/or due to the compelling nature of their candidacy given the dynamics of that specific race."

Mendes was also listed as a “Gas Tax Hero” by the Yes on Prop 6 campaign, which announced the elected officials and candidates that have helped in the fight to repeal the $52 billion gas and vehicle registration tax.

“Actions are more important than mere words,” the Yes on Prop 6 campaign stated on its website. “Beware of politicians who may claim they are on board with the repeal of the car and gas tax hikes. Only the individuals listed have offered meaningful assistance to the campaign.”

“The Yes on Prop 6 campaign is the perfect opportunity to push back and say no more. Cost of living in this state is the highest it has ever been and we need to be lifting this burden off of Central Valley families,” Mendes said after the recognition. “We need a representative that does more than just push a button in Sacramento, we need a leader that will stand up and fight for the Central Valley.”

Mendes is a Hanford City Councilman.
