LEMOORE — Changes may be coming to Lemoore after the Lemoore City Council discusses member elections and possible tax increases.

In its regular meeting on Tuesday night, council will discuss moving from at-large elections for city council members to district-based elections.

Under district-based elections, Lemoore voters would elect City Council candidates only from the district in which they live.

During the Council’s study session before the regular meeting, Council will discuss a possible tax initiative to increase general fund revenues to support city services.

The staff report from the agenda states the cost of city services have increased over time while revenues have not increased at the same rate. Staff is proposing a ballot measure in June 2018 to increase local sales tax by 1 percent.

The staff report states the increase could potentially increase local revenues by $1.8 million annually.
