A 20-year-old Hanford man was killed Wednesday morning after his vehicle collided head-on with a big rig on Highway 43 near Corcoran, the California Highway Patrol said.
Around 7:50 a.m., the victim was driving his 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 truck northbound on Highway 43, south of Avenue 144, at an unknown speed. The CHP said the driver allowed his vehicle to cross into the southbound lane and into the path of a 1995 Freightliner.
Authorities said the driver of the big rig attempted to move to one side, but was unable to avoid a head-on collision. The Hanford man, whose name has been withheld pending notification of family, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The big rig driver was not injured.
The collision remains under investigation and it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor.
