HANFORD — A Hanford man has been convicted of workers compensation insurance fraud and tax evasion, the California Department of Insurance said.
Richard Escamilla Jr., 47, owner of ROC Harvesting, had misrepresented information to workers compensation insurance carriers. Escamilla had used new business names to obtain insurance as a new business and avoid providing a claim history.
Evidence also showed that Escamilla had failed to pay the proper amount of unemployment insurance tax.
Escamilla pleaded guilty on Oct. 29 and was sentenced Wednesday to pay restitution of about $4.1 million and serve six years in prison.
