HANFORD — A man wanted on a charge for robbery led officers on a high-speed chase and foot pursuit before eventually getting away, police say.

The incident took place Thursday at around 10:30 a.m., when Hanford police officers said they attempted to stop a green Ford Explorer for speeding in a residential area near Coe Park.

Police said the driver of the Explorer, who was later identified as Laquonne Brinston, accelerated and began to drive at excessive speeds of around 80 mph going southbound on Harris Street toward Hanford-Armona Road.

Brinston refused to yield to the officer’s lights and sirens and continued eastbound on Hanford-Armona Road, driving without regard for traffic or pedestrians, police said. Police said Brinston also failed to stop at a posted stop sign.

According to police, Brinston drove to the area of the 1100 block of Fran Drive, where he drove into a vacant dirt field then fled on foot. Officers said they gave chase and were able to spot Brinston enter a black Nissan Altima, which was being driven by Dante Patterson.

Police said a traffic stop was then conducted on the Nissan Altima, which stopped in the 1100 block of Jordan Way. Brinston was hiding in the back seat of the Altima and fled the area on foot again.

As officers were attempting to locate Brinston, they said Patterson attempted to leave the area and was stopped by an officer. Patterson was cited for eluding a peace officer, police said.

Officers were not able to locate Brinston and the Hanford Police Department said it is still seeking to place him in custody.

Brinston was already wanted on a charge of robbery in a previous case earlier this year, and police said additional charges have been filed with regard to the recent pursuit.

If anyone has information leading to the whereabouts of Brinston, they are urged to contact the Hanford Police Department at 585-2540.
