LEMOORE — One man was arrested over the weekend after a fight broke out at Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino that ended up with someone being shot, according to the Kings County Sheriff’s Office.
Just before midnight on Saturday, deputies said a fight broke out at the Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino between multiple people.
When the fight broke out, officials said casino security officers attempted to break up the fight and detain the individuals involved; however, most of the subjects fought the security personnel and were able to escape with the exception of one man who was detained by security personnel.
Sheriff’s deputies said 21-year-old Jose Leon and another man ran from the casino and continued fighting as they exited the casino. As the two ran outside into the valet/driveway area, officials said Leon removed a handgun from his waistband and shot the other man multiple times.
Leon then fled the area on foot, deputies said.
Officials said casino surveillance personnel were able to track Leon and watched as he made a phone call and was then picked up by his sister in the area of the Yokut Gas Station on 17th Avenue.
At that point, Sheriff’s officials said security personnel began following the vehicle and provided location updates to deputies.
Deputies said they eventually caught up to the suspect vehicle in the area of 14th Avenue and Kent Avenue, where they conducted a traffic stop and took both Leon and his sister into custody.
A search of the suspect vehicle did not yield the gun, but Sheriff’s officials said Senior Deputy Eric Johnson used his K-9 partner and eventually located the handgun near the area of the traffic stop.
Leon and his sister were interviewed by KCSO detectives and a criminal history inquiry that was conducted revealed Leon is a convicted felon and was on parole for a violation of assault with a deadly weapon, officials said.
Authorities said Leon was booked into the Kings County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder), felon in possession of a firearm and felon in possession of ammunition.
Deputies said Leon’s sister and the other man detained at the scene were interviewed and released pending further investigation.
The man who was shot was transported to Kaweah Delta Medical Center, where he was being treated for his injuries. His medical status was unavailable.
