Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for information after the body of a woman was found floating in a canal.
Sheriff’s officials said workers in the Cantua Creek area reported seeing a body floating in the California Aqueduct shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to West Davis and South San Mateo avenues and located the body of a woman in the canal, authorities said.
Members of the Sheriff’s Dive Team later arrived and removed the body from the waterway, officials said, adding homicide detectives and members of the Crime Scene Unit also responded to the scene to collect evidence.
The woman’s body has been transported to the coroner’s office, where authorities said an autopsy will take place at a later time. The woman’s identity and age are not being released at this time.
Until a cause of death is determined, officials said this is being considered a suspicious death.
