LEMOORE — A crash involving four vehicles left two people dead over the weekend, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Around 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, CHP officers from the Hanford area office responded to the report of a traffic collision in the area of state Route 41 and Hanford-Armona Road in Lemoore.
During the investigation, officers determined that a 2015 Honda Accord was traveling westbound on Hanford-Armona Road at the intersection with state Route 41.
At the same time, CHP said a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling northbound on state Route 41 approaching the intersection with Hanford-Armona Road.
For reasons unknown to CHP at this time, officers said the 44-year-old driver of the Honda allowed her vehicle to slowly move forward into the intersection against a red traffic light and directly into the path of the Chevrolet pickup.
Officers said the front of the pickup struck the driver side of the Honda and the impact caused both vehicles to travel in a northwesterly direction, where they struck a 2000 Mazda Miata and a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado which were stopped in the southbound left turn lane on state Route 41.
CHP officials said both the driver and an 11-year-old female passenger of the Honda died at the scene. They were both from Lemoore.
A CHP report stated the 24-year-old female driver of the Chevrolet pickup complained of minor pain, but no one else was injured.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation, but authorities said alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be contributing factors in this crash.
