HANFORD — A runaway teenage girl has been found with her mother after her father received anonymous text messages asking for ransom money, Hanford Police Department officials said.

On Jan. 1, Hanford police said a parent reported his 15-year-old daughter as a runaway after she left her Hanford home.

The girl had previously been booked in the Kings County Jail on misdemeanor charges and upon her release, fled from her father’s home, officials said.

On Jan. 10, police said the father received an anonymous text message indicating that his daughter was being held against her will and her captor wanted money for her return.

Hanford Detectives started investigating the case and officials said they learned that the girl had been in correspondence with her mother, 36-year-old Kristine Lloyd-Prescott since the day she ran away and it appeared the girl had possibly left the city of Hanford with her mother.

Authorities said Prescott had her parental rights taken away through the Tulare County Court system and was not supposed to be around her daughter unsupervised.

Detectives said they were able to track down Prescott to the Lamplighter Inn in Visalia, where they found Prescott and the missing girl inside one of the hotel rooms.

Police said Prescott was taken into custody and both she and her daughter were transported back to Hanford. They said Prescott was booked into the Kings County Jail for parental abduction, possession of methamphetamine and child endangerment.

Detectives said they are still following up on the information regarding the ransom from the anonymous phone number.
