HANFORD — A Hanford man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly selling drugs in the 12th Avenue shopping center parking lot and having a gun in his car, Hanford Police Department officials said.

Around 2:30 p.m., Hanford officers were dispatched to the Famous Footwear parking lot regarding a male in a gray sports car thought to be selling drugs.

Officers said they contacted the man, later identified as 24-year-old Austin Brooks, in the vehicle and noticed the bottom grip of a handgun near the driver’s seat.

Brooks was detained and officers said they located a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun in the car. Further search of the vehicle revealed items consistent with the sale and transportation of marijuana and narcotics, police said.

Authorities said Brooks was booked into the Kings County Jail on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm in his vehicle, possession of marijuana for sale and transportation of narcotics.
