The Hanford Parks and Recreation Department partnered with students from Woodrow Wilson and John F. Kennedy junior high schools to observe Arbor Day with a ceremony on Friday. Participants planted three red oak trees in Civic Park and four Shumard oak trees near the Courthouse Square parking lot. Although Arbor Day was historically celebrated on April 22, it is now observed on a date appropriate for tree planting in a given region.
