HANFORD — When it comes to getting a bite in Hanford, there’s a new kid on the block.
Adam’s Drive-In, located at 617 E. 7th St., hosted its grand opening Thursday.
“This corner has good potential and with our recipes and prices, to me it’s a recipe for success,” owner Saleh Obeid said.
Obeid owns a series of Valley eateries including the Kings Drive-In in Corcoran and Super Burger Drive-In in Reedley. His first restaurant was Elmer’s Drive-In in Delano, which he opened in the late 1980s and has since sold to a family member.
Obeid knew he wanted to expand his business into Hanford and saw the former Mike’s Grill spot on the east side of town as the perfect spot.
“Everything in Hanford is closer to 12th so we’d like to try to reignite this part of town and to revitalize it,” he said.
Since taking over the corner spot at 7th Street and 10th Avenue, Obeid has had the interior remodeled and brought up to code and is serving up grand opening specials throughout the month.
Much like the menus of his others restaurants, Adam’s will serve up burgers, salads, pastrami sandwiches, chicken strips burritos, desserts and other quick lunchtime items.
“We use fresh ingredients and it really makes a difference,” Obeid said.
The restaurant has tables both indoors and on a patio area in front. There’s a small parking lot in back, but Obeid said he expects a large number of customers to be walk-ups from the downtown area and adjacent neighborhoods.
The restaurant currently with six employees, though Obeid said they’re looking to hire more.
The restaurant’s hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., which will provide a late dinner — or early midnight snack — option for local diners.
“If we see things aren’t as active as we’d like, then we may close a little earlier, but right now we plan to be open until 9,” Obeid said.
