NASL — An open house was held at Naval Air Station Lemoore’s Jet Mart the evening of Aug. 1 to announce its new operating hours. The Jet Mart’s closing time has been extended from 10 p.m. to midnight in an effort to add convenience to those living aboard the installation. Opening times remain unchanged at 6 a.m. Mondays through Fridays and 8 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
According to Cathie Reihl, general manager of the Navy Exchange (NEX) Lemoore, the decision to extend operating hours came in response to requests made by those living on the base, who otherwise would have to make a trip into town when in need of an item late at night.
“If a family realizes they’re out of diapers, discovers a little one that isn't feeling well and requires an OTC medicine, or they just get the late night munchies, they would ordinarily have had a 15- or 20-minute drive into Lemoore or Hanford. Extending our hours of operation in the housing mini mart until midnight makes it a little more convenient for the families,” Reihl said.
Alcohol will not be available for purchase after 10 p.m. in compliance with an executive order that was issued by the Department of the Navy in 2013 to encourage healthy lifestyles for Sailors, Marines and their families. The order was issued in direct support of the 21st Century Sailor Program.
During the open house, attendees were provided with free samples of items sold at the Jet Mart, including fresh fruit, chocolate and ice cream. Giveaway bags were filled with hats, energy drinks and snacks. A raffle was also held to win a number of items, including NEX gift cards and a vintage Pepsi ice chest.
The extended operating hours follow another change to the Jet Mart that was made in 2017 to add convenience and increase consumer satisfaction: the availability of organic and natural foods. The Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) launched the trial program at four locations, and the NASL Jet Mart remains No. 1 in sales year to date.
