Santa’s Workshop

The shop was festooned with decorations to look like Santa’s Workshop and NMCRS volunteers were in varying costume to look like Santa, Mrs. Claus and helper elves.

On the evening of Monday, Dec. 18, the base Thrift Shop, operated by Naval Air Station Lemoore’s (NASL) Navy Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS), was abuzz with children shopping for family and friends at the 5th annual Santa’s Workshop.

The shop was festooned with decorations to look like Santa’s Workshop and NMCRS volunteers were in varying costume to look like helper elves.

This special event allowed only children to shop, and almost 50 youngsters searched high and low with the help of the volunteers to find the perfect gift for their family members. Parents relaxed in another room with coffee and cookies while they waited for their children to finish their shopping. Once the gifts were purchased, they were then wrapped by the volunteers free of charge, before family members could see them.

Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived at the Santa’s Workshop event, escorted by the NAS Lemoore Security Detachment. They arrived in style with the lights flashing as an excited welcoming party comprised of children, parents and volunteers looked on. Santa and Mrs. Claus spoke with the shoppers, took photos with them and gave each child a gift of their own.

“This is the second year we’ve had Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive in a police car,” said NMCRS director Jeanes Cunningham. “It was a big hit. The event becomes more and more successful each year as the volunteers provide more information to update and enhance the annual event. We are very proud of all our volunteers, the Thrift Shop staff for coordinating the event, and especially thank Santa and Mrs. Claus for taking time to visit us all the way down here in Lemoore, California.”
