KINGSBURG — The 2018 Cal Ripken Pacific Under-10 Southwest Regional tournament is set to take place at Safarjian Field on July 15-21.
All-stars from Kingsburg will host the tournament that will feature 10 district championship teams from Utah, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii and California. There will be a total of five teams from California in the tournament.
The final day of the tournament will featured three games with a single-elimination format between four semifinalists. The semifinalist teams will be determined by: win-loss record, head-to-head results, total fewest runs given up and/or run differential.
The champion of the tournament will advance to the Cal Ripken Under-10 World Series in Vincennes, Indiana, on Aug. 4-11.
Opening ceremonies of the tournament will be held on July 15 and games will start the following day.
On July 2-4, Kingsburg Cal Ripken baseball hosted the Central California State 11-70 tournament at Safarjian Field. The Kingsburg 11-year-old all-stars came in second after losing to Visalia 5-2 in the finals.
Sebastian Ocejo of Visalia was named MVP of the tournament. Gavin Enns, Aaron Garcia, Matthew Ward and Kyle Garcia of Kingsburg were among the all-tournament selections.
SELMA - The Selma Aqua Bears a hosting the Central Valley Recreational Swim League trial time meet at the Selma High School swimming pool on July 14.
Besides Selma, teams competing in the meet are from Visalia, Hanford, Tulare, Exeter, Porterville and Sierra. Swimmers on the teams range in age from 4-18 years old.
For those in attendance, food will be available including pulled pork sandwiches, hamburgers, pizza, chile verde burritos from Sal’s Mexican Restaurant and shaved ice.
The meet is scheduled for a start time of 9 a.m. and approximately will end at 3 p.m.
