KINGSBURG – Kris Ingrao likes bicycles. So much so that he builds custom bikes in a glorious array of colors that he and his family ride around Kingsburg on hot summer nights.
Ingrao also belongs to the Wicked Wayz Bike Club that has members from Kingsburg but also from Fresno and Bakersfield. The Ingraos have even taken part in bike shows at Fresno’s Grizzly Stadium.
“These are all hand-made and custom built,” he said of his own bikes. “It’s just something to do. It’s a hobby.”
To give fellow bike enthusiasts a chance to show off their rides, Ingrao has organized what he hopes is the first of many free bike shows in town.
“There’s not a lot of bike shows in the Valley. It’s really popular north of here in Sacramento and San Jose. It’s huge over there and they have rides with thousands of people. We’d like to get that going in this direction.”
Hot Summer Nights Bike Show and Street Fair will be 3-9 p.m. Aug. 18 in front of the Historic Train Depot, 1465 California St. For those who would like to enter their bicycle, the registration fee is $5. Participants may sign up on the day of the event.
They’re expecting at least 70 bikes to be on view for this first Kingsburg event. Car and truck enthusiasts have asked to join in so Ingrao has spots for those who’d also like to show off their four-wheel rides. Vehicle registration fees are $10.
“I have a lot of friends that have trucks and cars that match their bikes so it works out.”
The event includes a pre-ride the night before at 7 p.m. on Aug. 17 which starts at the Train Depot, winds through town to the Kingsburg Historical Park and back. Youth must bring an adult and wear a helmet to participate.
Children are encouraged to decorate their bikes to compete for prizes. Judging will also take place for 22 awards for 10 different categories such as vintage, custom cruiser, BMX and low-riders. There will also be prizes for vehicles.
Food, craft and merchandise vendors and superhero characters will also be on hand along California Street for the event as well. Vendors may take part for $30.
