HANFORD — Four new resident physicians joined the Hanford Family Medicine Residency program at the beginning of this month.
The program helps address the Valley’s shortage of physicians and receives hundreds of applications each interview season. Only four were selected to take part in the program out of almost 600 applications received this year.
The residents are Drs. Nadia Dao, Kelvis Gonzalez Gallardo, Javier Hernandez and Angelina Neria. They are receiving training from community physicians who serve as faculty members in the program.
Dr. Nadia Dao
Dr. Dao graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, and earned her medical degree from Ross University in the Caribbean. She completed clerical internships in New York, Florida, Illinois and California. She has a master’s degree in human services with a health care administration emphasis. Dr. Dao speaks English, Vietnamese and some Spanish. She grew up in Los Angeles County.

Dr. Kelvis Gonzalez Gallardo
Dr. Gonzalez Gallardo attended medical school at the Higher Institute of Medical Sciences in Villa Clara, Cuba. He served as a certified nursing assistant in Albuquerqu, N.M., and was in the University of California at Los Angeles International Medical Graduate Program. The program places bilingual family physicians in rural and urban communities. He was born in Santa Clara, Cuba.
Dr. Javier Hernandez
Dr. Hernandez attended the Universidad Autonoma Benito in Juarez de Oaxaca. A year into medical school, he came to the United States to help his family who picked fruit in the fields in Dinuba, but then went back to Mexico to finish up medical school. He was born in Oaxaca, Mexico.
Dr. Angelina Neria
Dr. Neria has a medical and master’s degrees from Loma Linda University. She joins her husband, Dr. Jerry Neria, who began the Hanford Family Medicine Residency program in January 2016. She is fluent in both English and Spanish.
The Hanford Family Medicine Residency is accredited by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education.
