"Moonstruck" screens at the Hanford Fox Theatre Friday. 

There’s lots of things going on now that it looks like it’s possible that spring will spring in the near future. So in lieu of a normal column, here are some exciting events coming up.

Play ball

The Hanford Parks & Recreation Department will host a four-week Challenger Baseball season at the Harris Street Ball Field, beginning Saturday, April 27.

Players will meet Saturday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.  After a warm-up and stretch session there will be a mini game. This Challenger program is geared toward each student’s abilities. Its design is to provide structured exercise, socialization and skill development with fun for all ages. Parents and siblings are welcome to join in.

The cost is $25 per person. Scholarships are available to those who qualify.

The season lasts from April 27-May 18. Game times are 1-2:30 p.m. Roster spots available to those in fourth grade and up.

Have a belated Valentine’s Day date at the Fox

The Hanford Fox Theatre will screen the hit ‘80s romantic comedy, “Moonstruck” at 7 p.m. Friday.

In the film, a middle aged and recently widowed Cher falls in love with her fiance’s estranged somewhat unhinged younger brother, played by Nic Cage.

The film, released in 1987, is PG and runs one hour and 42 minutes.

Advance Tickets are $5 cash or $6 credit card plus a $2 restoration fee per order. Day of show tickets are $6 cash or $7 credit card plus a $2 restoration fee per order.

               

Mardi Gras dance

The Hanford Parks and Recreation Department will host a special classic rock night at the Hanford Civic Auditorium from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, March 9.

Two bands are scheduled to play everyone’s favorites from the ‘60s and ‘70s with a little country and Tex Mex on the side. Prestige will open the show, with local favorites Roadhouse closing out the night.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
