Now that Halloween is over, welcome to the holiday season. That time of year when we kick it into overdrive with family, friends, dinners, and parties. I find that it can be a tough time of year to keep up with your fitness. The mornings are cold and dark and there are too many things to do in the evenings. What if I told you I have a simple solution? Time saving workouts so you don’t lose what you have gained over the last several months. The bonus is the workouts can help to manage your weight during this holiday season!

The answer to fast fitness is high intensity interval training (HIIT). If you have been following our column then you may have seen Dr. Chris Telesmanic’s article on the benefits of HIIT training.

Here are 2 quick and efficient HIIT workouts.

  1. Tabata training: Tabata training is a 4 minute workout with 20 sec work cycle and 10 sec rest. To make things even more simple you can purchase apps like the Tabata Pro App to keep it simple and fast.
  2. 7 Minute Workout: Similar to the Tabata workout the 7 Minute Workout is a scientifically proven workout to get fitness results. The 7 Minute Workout has a 30 sec work-cycle with a 10 second rest. Want an app to help you time your workouts and remind which exercise is next - checkout the 7 Minute Workout App.

If you have a little extra time you can always repeat the circuits two or even three or more cycles. Don’t forget to spice things up by changing the exercises. Keep things fresh and challenging.

The main take away, keep moving this holiday season.
