SELMA – New board members were sworn in at the Dec. 11 Selma Unified School Board meeting and got right to work approving the purchase of technology equipment, the issuance of Measure O bonds, a grant to build more kindergarten classrooms, and creating new instructional coaching job descriptions.
Board President Jennifer Winter was unopposed in the Nov. 6 general election and was re-appointed to continue serving on the board for another four years. Diane Jensen and Roger Orosco are the new board members and were joined by their families for the swearing-in ceremony.
Indianola staff and students were also recognized that evening. Honored were Tracie Howell, Chad Morton, Tamara West, Nancy Nicacio, Gina Lencioni, Julie Valdez, Meredith Ditto, Raechel McConnohie and Lilia Ortiz. Students honored that night were Jacob Sifuentes, Jacob Hernandez, Hannah Salt, Natalie Gutierrez and Alysha Hernandez.
The board also heard an update on the Selma High stadium from Superintendent Tanya Fisher. A ground-breaking ceremony is not yet scheduled but is expected to take place in mid-January once students return from winter break.
