SELMA – Selma High Parents Club is gearing up for Sober Grad and is accepting donations for the event.
“We fundraise throughout the year in order to make Sober Grad Night a success,” Parents Club President Lahoma Moreno said. Just recently, they hosted a chili verde dinner and Moreno said she’s grateful for all the parents who pitched in during that event.
“The people who helped with our fundraiser include Noemi Barrios, Rena Martinez, Monique Marroquin, Jesusita Perez and myself, along with Dr. Stan Louie, Mary Helen Ontiveros, Marci Cranford and Abel Simon.
“I would like to give a huge thank you to Ignacio Ramirez for all his hard work in preparing the chili verde from scratch before he went to work at 6 a.m. We sold 100 dinner plates.”
Moreno said donations such as water, sodas, food and/or cash are still being accepted to purchase needed items for Sober Grad Night.
“There are approximately 432 graduates this year,” Moreno said. “It’s one of the biggest [graduating classes] Selma has had in a while.”
Sober Grad Night is free to all Selma High graduates and includes a deejay, photo booth, night swimming, games and raffles. The event is at Selma High and runs from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.
“Our number one priority is to keep the children safe and sober to give them one more night to make more memories.”
Monetary donations are tax deductible and volunteers are also needed. For more information, contact Moreno at email@example.com or 213-1281.
