Sheriffs: Fake checks

Two women are wanted by Fresno County Sheriff’s Office property crimes detectives in connection with counterfeit check-cashing incidents that took place in Caruthers and Riverdale.

CARUTHERS – Fresno County Sheriff’s Office property crimes detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying two women involved in check-cashing schemes. Detectives say the women may be working together.

On Oct. 18, a woman approached a teller window at United Security Bank at 13356 S. Henderson Ave. in Caruthers to cash a fraudulent check. She got the cash and left.

On Nov. 9, detectives suspect that it was likely the same woman who cashed a check at the Riverdale Shell gas station at 3610 W. Mt. Whitney Ave. She purchased some items and then left.

On Nov. 11, a different woman entered the same Shell Gas Station in Riverdale and attempted to cash two checks. The clerk cashed the first check, but not the other because it appeared to be a fake.

The woman arrived and left in a Ford pickup truck, which was later determined to be stolen. Anyone with information about either of these suspects is asked to contact Det. Lindsay Milchovich at 600-8174.

You may also contact Crime Stoppers at 498-7867 or www.valleycrimestoppers.org. Callers will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
