SELMA - The Selma girls basketball team continued its tremendous start to the 2018-19 season with a 71-25 Central Sequoia League victory over Dinuba on Monday.

It was the Bears (12-1, 2-0 in CSL) 12th-straight win and it was the 10th consecutive double-digit victory for Selma.

Rachel Vieira scored a team-high 20 points, had five rebounds and three assists. Clarissa Moreno and Elena Loutherback also scored in double-digits. Moreno had 15 points while Loutherback scored 12. Yesenia Sanchez scored eight-points and had 12 rebounds.

As a team, the Bears outrebounded the Emperors 43-21 and Selma held Dinuba to single digits on the scoreboard in every quarter until the fourth. In the final quarter, the Emperors were only able to score 11 against the Bears.

Selma will take its 12-game winning streak to Anaheim for a tournament at Savanna High School on Dec. 26-29.

Girls basketball

REEDLEY - The Kingsburg girls basketball team started CSL play with a 44-22 win over Immanuel High School on Dec. 11.

Kingsburg’s league win improved its record to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in CSL play.

Ally Cotton scored a game-high 17 points, while Maddy Reed added 15.

On Monday, the Vikings improved to 2-0 in league play with a dominating 73-48 victory over Hanford West.

This week, the Vikings will compete at a tournament at Dinuba High on

Dec. 19-22. After, Kingsburg will play at Buchanan High School for the Old Town Clovis Kiwanis Classic on Dec. 28- 29.

Boys basketball

KINGSBURG - The Kingsburg boys basketball team broke a three-game losing streak with a 59-47 victory over Sierra Pacific in a nonleague game at home on Dec. 14.

Coming into the matchup the Sierra Pacific Golden Bears came into the game with an undefeated 6-0 record.

The win came three days after the Vikings fell to league opponent Immanuel in a close 63-61 loss.

After the victory over Sierra Pacific, Kingsburg improved to 4-7 overall heading to its league game against Hanford West on Monday.

The Vikings will play two games this week that includes a road matchup at Reedley High tonight and a game against Golden West on Friday. Tip-off for Kingsburg’s game against the Reedley Pirates is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The start time for the game against Golden West is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

DINUBA - The Selma boys basketball team dropped to 0-2 in CSL play with a 80-42 road loss to the Dinuba Emperors on Monday.

The Bears (3-9 overall, 0-2 in CSL) lost its first league game to Central Valley Christian in a 77-60 loss on Dec. 11.

After the loss to CVC, Selma competed at the Andrew Bedoya Holiday Classic in Dinuba on Dec. 12-15.

The Bears went 2-2 at the four-day tournament with wins over Monache and Tulare Union. Selma defeated Monache 69-64 and Tulare Union 64-60. Joey Ramirez was the only Bear to make the All-Tournament team.

This week, Selma will compete at a tournament at Madera South High School on Dec. 19-22.

Girls soccer

BAKERSFIELD - After going winless to start the season, the Kingsburg girls soccer team won its eighth-straight game after a 5-0 CSL victory over Hanford West on Monday.

Marissa Montelongo, Emma Price, Emma Ramirez, Denise Elias, and Pearl Vargas all scored for the Vikings.

Currently, Kingsburg’s record stands at 8-3-1 overall and 2-0 in CSL play.

On Dec. 14-15, the Vikings also took first place at a tournament at Liberty (Bakersfield) High School with victories over Independence, Shafter, Foothill, and Highland by a combined score of 10-4.

Before the Liberty Tournament, Kingsburg defeated Reedley 3-0 in a nonleague game on Dec. 13. Two days before, Vikings started 1-0 in league play with a 6-0 win over Immanuel on the road.

Up next for Kingsburg is a road matchup against Clovis North on Friday, which scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
