HANFORD - The Selma girls basketball team improved to 3-0 in Central Sequoia League play after a 71-40 win over Hanford West on Jan. 4.
It was the Bears’ 16th win in the last 17 games and the victory improved Selma to 16-2 overall this season.
The Bears had four players that scored in double-digits, who were Audrey Gonzalez (14 points), Zoe Gonzalez (11), Elena Loutherback (11), and Rachel Viera (10).
Vieira recorded an all-around stat line with seven assists and eight steals. Yesenia Sanchez nearly notched a double-doubled, scoring eight points with 12 rebounds.
Up next for the girls is a CSL matchup at Immanuel on Thursday at 6 p.m.
KINGSBURG - The Kingsburg girls soccer dominated nonleague opponent Strathmore High in a 7-0 win at home on Jan. 4.
The win improved the Vikings to 9-4-1 overall.
After a 2-0 halftime lead, Kingsburg scored five goals in the second half.
Marissa Montelongo (19,’ 47’) and Cambria Brandon (61,’79’) each scored twice while Emma Price (10’), Emma Ramirez (70’), and Denise Elias (73’) each added a goal.
The Vikings will take its 2-0 CSL record in a road matchup against Central Valley Christian on Thursday.
HANFORD - Selma remained winless in league play after a 3-1 loss to Hanford West on Jan. 4.
The Bears dropped to 5-4-1 overall and 0-3 in CSL play after the loss.
The Huskies led at halftime 1-0 and added two goals in the second half.
Mya Rosas scored the only goal for Selma on a penalty kick after a foul in the goal box in the 64th minute.
The Bears will play on the road against Immanuel on Thursday.
FARMERSVILLE - The Kingsburg boys soccer team struggled against nonleague opponent Farmersville, losing to the Aztecs 7-2 on the road on Jan. 3.
Jordan Rios and Nathon Meza were responsible for the Vikings scores, which came in the second half.
Farmersville led at halftime 4-0 before scoring three more goals in the second half.
Kingsburg (3-8-1 overall, 0-1 in CSL) will continue league play at home against Central Valley Christian on Thursday at 6 p.m.
EASTON - The Selma boys soccer team cruised to its first CSL win of the season against Hanford West on Jan. 4.
The hosting Bears defeated the Huskies 7-1 at Washington Union High School.
Selma led 2-0 halftime before a five-goal outburst in the second half. Hanford West’s lone goal occurred in the second half.
The Bears improved to 7-5-1 overall and 1-2 in league play after the win.
Selma’s next game will be at Kingsburg in a rivalry matchup against the Vikings on Jan. 16.
