Selma youth boxer Magali Perez is scheduled to compete in a regional tournament this weekend.
The young boxer will square up against competitors from California, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah in a regional championship tournament set to take place at Compton on Jan. 4-6.
Perez qualified for the regional tourney after winning a state championship in the girls age-13-14 114-weight division at a tournament in Carson on Dec. 15-16.
According to trainer David Davis, Perez has been boxing since she was two-years-old. Perez is also trained by her father Daniel Perez.
“Through her hard work and determination, Magali has become a championship fighter, who could knock a 200-pound man out,” Davis said in a written statement.
Magali trains at the Way of the Fist in downtown Selma.
