SELMA – The 22-year-old Selma man who was killed in an early morning shooting Dec. 28 has been identified by the Fresno County Coroner's office as Ricardo Leon.
Selma Police Chief Greg Garner reports that officers are investigating after responding to a call regarding loud bangs on the 2400 block of Chaparal Lane at 3:09 a.m.
Officers found the property owner dead from apparent gunshot wounds. Other residents at the home, including the victim’s two brothers present at the time, were questioned. Limited information was provided, however.
Officers obtained a search warrant for the residence and the neighborhood is being canvassed for possible witnesses or usable video surveillance.
“No motive is apparent at this time [and] no one else was injured,” Garner said. “The residence has an extensive history with our department, including several calls for service involving loud parties, animal control calls and drug usage.”
Garner said the property owner, the victim in this case, has also been cited several times for various municipal code violations, and recently appealed and lost an administrative citation for violation of the city’s marijuana regulations.
