SELMA – A 36-year-old Riverdale man is dead after being struck by a passing driver April 13, California Highway Patrol officers reported. The incident took place at 9:56 p.m. near the intersection of DeWolf and Nebraska avenues just west of Selma.

The man’s name has not been released pending family notification.

CHP officers investigated to find that Shontae Harris, 20, of Laton, was driving a 2000 Buick north on DeWolf Avenue north of Nebraska at 55 miles per hour. The man entered the roadway heading west from the east dirt shoulder from between two parked vehicles. Since he walked directly into the path of the oncoming car, Harris did not have time to slow down or stop in time.

The man was transported to the Selma Adventist hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Harris remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation. She was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The sobriety of the pedestrian was not yet known.
