September is Ombudsman Appreciation Month and it’s an opportunity to honor the dedicated service and loyalty of our Ombudsmen. It is also an opportunity to fully acquaint ourselves with how they support our Navy family, with services ranging from acting as key links between commands and families to guiding families with concerns or major crises.

With the OPTEMPO experienced at NAS Lemoore by our Wings, it is fitting to find more than 30 Ombudsmen who volunteer their time and efforts. Know that if and when the time comes when you need an Ombudsman, that you will discover an amazing resource.

A key aspect that makes the Ombudsman program such a success in our military is the fact that Ombudsmen consist of family members who are all too intimately familiar with the demands and challenges of being removed from extended family back home and often times finding themselves running a household entirely alone while the service member is deployed.

Our Navy’s Ombudsman Program is managed by the Fleet and Family Support Center, which showcases the Navy’s commitment to promote the overall wellbeing, sustainability and resiliency of Sailors and Navy families, and enables them to chart the most effective course as they maneuver through military life.

At the end of the day, no one can eliminate the potential for issues, challenges or emergencies from our day-to-day existence. However, the service provided by Ombudsmen enables us to be one step closer to resolving issues and ensuring that we are mission ready.

I have witnessed first-hand the remarkable service provided by Ombudsmen, the conviction with which they carry out their duties, and the uplifting of spirits that their effectiveness evokes. To serve is noble, to care is invaluable. Throughout my career, I always took comfort in knowing that my family was in the hands of trusted command Ombudsmen who were always ready to answer any call.

Their work does not go unnoticed. We all benefit from their service. On behalf of all family members and front office leadership here at NAS Lemoore, to all of our Ombudsmen – thank you for putting the needs of others ahead of your own. Thank you for volunteering to make a difference. Thank you for giving so much to our Navy families… we could not be the fighting force that we are today without your support.

To Ombudsmen everywhere, I salute you for the invaluable service you provide to our Navy each and every day.
