KINGSBURG - The Kingsburg softball team opened the 2019 season with a
6-5 win over Clovis West at home on March 1.
The Vikings go-head run came in the bottom of the fifth inning, which broke a 5-5 tie. Kingsburg previously tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the third inning.
In the first inning, Clovis West started the game with a 2-0 lead before the Vikings scored four runs to gain a 4-2 advantage.
The Golden Eagles tied the score at 4-4 in the second inning before taking a 5-4 lead in the third.
Blaire Willson and Marissa Gonzalez each had two hits for Kingsburg while Marissa Montelongo, Brianna Vela and Madison Alves each had a hit at the plate.
Gonzalez went 2-for-2 with a homerun, triple and three RBIs and Willson scored a run on a 2-for-4 day at the plate. Alves (1-for-2, double), Brianna Vela (1-for-3), and Caitlyn Vela (0-for-3, sacrifice fly) each knocked in a run for the Vikings.
As a team, Kingsburg out hit Clovis West 7-6.
The Vikings last played on the road against Coalinga on Monday (after press time). Tonight, Kingsburg is scheduled to play a doubleheader at a tournament at Buchanan High School. The Vikings will play Stockdale at 5 p.m. followed by a matchup against Redwood at 7 p.m. The tournament will continue on Saturday after taking Thursday and Friday off.
Kingsburg is scheduled to start Central Sequoia League play at home against Immanuel on March 12.
FOWLER - The Selma baseball team won its fifth game in a row after a 4-2 road victory over Fowler High on March 1.
The win was part of the Central Valley Diamond Classic Tournament, which takes place throughout the area. It was the Bears fourth win of the tournament.
Selma improved to 5-1 this season after opening the year with a 3-2 loss to Clovis East on Feb. 9.
Today, the Bears are scheduled to continue the CVDC tourney with a home game against Sanger at 3:30 p.m. The CVDC Tournament is scheduled to continue on Saturday.
Selma is scheduled to begin CSL play at home against Central Valley Christian on March 12.
KINGSBURG - The Kingsburg baseball team lost its third-straight game after a 15-2 defeat by Reedley High on March 1.
The loss was part of the CVDC Tournament that’s taking place throughout the Valley. The loss also drops the Vikings to a 1-4 this season.
Junior Marcus Estrada had half of Kingsburg’s six hits, going 3-for-3 with a triple at the plate. Estrada also scored one of the Vikings two runs. Junior Jacob Gregory knocked in Kingsburg’s only runs of the game with a two-run double in the second inning. Gregory went 1-for-2 at the plate.
Michael Delgado (1-for-1) and Adam Bratton (1-for-3, double) had the other hits for the Vikings.
Today, Kingsburg is scheduled to play on the road against Lemoore High at 3:30 p.m. The game is part of the CVDC tourney. The tournament is scheduled to continue on Saturday.
The Vikings will begin CSL play on the road against Immanuel on March 12.
