KINGSBURG – Community members will gather for the 10th annual Prayer Walk in advance of the upcoming school year at 7 p.m. Aug. 19 at area campuses.
Community members meet up to pray for the staff and students on the Sunday before school starts in an effort to lift up the needs of each school.
Site coordinators will be on hand to greet participants at the following locations: Kingsburg High, Rafer Johnson Junior High and all the elementary schools including Washington, Roosevelt, Lincoln, Reagan, Clay, Kings River, Reedley’s St. La Salle and Traver School. The Reedley event is at 3:30 p.m.
Beverly Holmskog is one of the organizers who said their effort isn’t about a particular congregation and that any resident may participate.
“The Prayer Walk is not about a church or specific ministry. Every community member, school student and employee is invited to come and lift up the schools in prayer on this day. Joining together with others with a common purpose is a fine way to start the school year,” Holmskog said.
The walks first started a decade ago at Kingsburg High and the effort has spread to other local schools since then.
“We pray that each staff person will honor God while working in these school districts,” she said.
