KINGSBURG – The Kingsburg Professional Firefighters Association Local #4291 is raising funds in a cash for college drive from 8-11 a.m. Oct. 10.

The fill-the-helmet effort is to raise funds for a scholarship in honor of Firefighter Larry Ray, a long-time firefighter in Kingsburg.

Ray died in 2011 following a short, but courageous, battle with job-related cancer. He had served with the Kingsburg Fire Department for 30 years and his son, Tim Ray, now serves as chief.

The department awards between $1,000 to $2,000 in scholarships in Ray’s honor to graduating Kingsburg High seniors each year.

Kingsburg Firefighters will be at the intersections of Draper and Marion streets in front of City Hall and at 18th Avenue and Sierra Street near Kingsburg High starting at 8 a.m. Oct. 10 to accept donations to continue this scholarship.
