Hurtado edges: Latest election vote counts

Here are the local General Election results as of 3 p.m. Nov. 28.

Here are the local General Election results as of 3 p.m. Nov. 28.

In an upset, newcomer Jewel Hurtado has taken a five-vote lead over Kingsburg City Council incumbent Staci Smith to represent District 1.

Another race that flip flops with every new posting of ballot counts is the Kingsburg Tri-County Health Care District. Although Gary Nelson and incumbent Arlie Rogers have the leads, candidates Tiffany Dix and Bruce Blayney take turns having the third-highest number of votes. There are three seats up for election on this board, so it remains to be decided if it’s Dix or Blayney that will be the third candidate to win in that race.

In other races, in Selma, Sarah Guerra and Johnny Trujillo have the top number of votes for the City Council election. In the Selma Unified School District decision, it’s still Diane Jensen and Roger Orosco in the lead for their districts. For the Selma Health Care District, Anthony Herrera retains his healthy lead, and then it’s incumbent Leticia Gallardo and Colleen Nelson in second and third place for the top number of votes.

In Kingsburg, Brent Lunde still retains his lead in the high school board race and Vince Palomar is still ahead in the contest to represent the newly formed District 5 for the City Council race.

The Fresno County Elections Office reports there are still 15,200 vote-by-mail and provisional ballots county wide left to be counted.

The next update is scheduled for 3 p.m. Nov. 28.

Updates on all the races will continue to be updated until the elections are certified on or before Dec. 6 on both www.selmaenterprise.com and www.kingsburgrecorder.com.
