HANFORD — The Sierra Pacific girls golf team took home another dominant victory at the Kings Country Club on Monday.
The Golden Bears took first in the East Sequoia League girls golf tournament by an astounding 70 strokes and finished with a score of 259. Strathmore was in a distant second (329) with Lindsay in third (344) and Granite Hills in fourth (348).
Sierra Pacific’s Sam Coons and Ally Martinez tied by shooting a team-low 49. Amanda Jorgensen kept pace with her teammates by finishing her round with a 50. Journey Claycamp shot a 52, Megan Ulibarri a 59 and Haley Arlitz rounded out the team with a 61.
HANFORD — The Hanford West girls volleyball team took down league rival Mt. Whitney in four sets on Tuesday.
Hanford West (19-2, 4-1) surprisingly dropped the first set 24-26 — it’s only the second time that’s happened this season — but rebounded to win the next three, 25-22, 25-18, 25-22.
For the Huskies, senior Madison Sousa led the way as usual with 14 kills, 12 digs, an ace, a solo block and an assist. Junior Shelby Perez had 13 kills, three aces and five digs.
Defensively, Domonique Ambers was dominant as always. The junior had a team-high 27 digs and only two dig errors. Ambers even got involved on a bit of offense with two aces and three assists.
Hanford West goes on the road and will face El Diamante (9-7, 2-2 WYL) on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Mt. Whitney (11-10, 2-2 WYL) heads back home to take on winless Hanford (0-11, 0-4 WYL) today at 4:30 p.m.
