HANFORD — The Sierra Pacific baseball team opened up its season with a 6-5 walk-off win in eight innings over Mission Oak on Saturday.

Sierra Pacific infielder Zach Barber provided the winning single with his only hit of the day and helped pitcher Sammy Springer get the win.

Sammy pitched five shutout innings with two strikeouts in relief of Barber who went three innings and allowed four earned runs with two strikeouts.

The Golden Bears (1-0) trailed 5-0 after Mission Oaks broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth. Sierra Pacific responded in the bottom of the frame with three runs.

The Golden Bears tied the game in the fifth off a base knock from Springer. He finished the day 2-for-3 with a double. The game stayed tied until the walk-off hit.

Sierra Pacific collected 10 hits in its win and will now face Hanford at their home today at 3:30 p.m.
