VISALIA — The Sierra Pacific boys golf team came away with a victory in the first East Sequoia League Mini tournament of the season at Valley Oaks Golf Course on Wednesday.

The Golden Bears took down five other teams by shooting a 237 and defeated second-place Granite Hills by 10 strokes. Two-time defending Division III champions Strathmore came in third with a 254, Lindsay carded a 280 and Woodlake and Orosi were disqualified.

Sierra Pacific’s No. 1 golfer Ethan Dall carded a team-low 39, which played a huge role in determining the outcome. No. 3 Chase Cromwell shot a 43, No. 2 Justin Fukano a 50, Ethan Chhan a 51 and Thomas Bell carded a 54. Lucas Cameron finished with a non-qualifying 61.

The Golden Bears are currently 3-1 in dual matches and have their next match on Monday. It’s another ESL Mini tournament, this time at Porterville Municipal Golf Course starting at 2 p.m.

WOODLAKE — Sierra Pacific had no trouble dispatching East Sequoia League opponent Woodlake 9-0 on Wednesday.

Making the win even more impressive was the fact the Golden Bears were playing without their regular No. 2 and No. 4 singles players, but Dillon Macias and Amitesh Nagavali filled in nicely each with 8-0 victories.

They weren’t the only ones not to drop a game as No. 1 singles player JC Roa, No. 2 Jackie Gong and No. 4 Jinqiao Lu also came away with 8-0 victories. It wasn’t much trouble for No. 3 Bradley Chounlamountry either who came away with an 8-2 win.

In doubles, the No. 1 team of Roa and Marco Diaz won 8-1, No. 2 team Gong and Chounlamountry won 8-1 and the third doubles team of Alex Rogodo and Nick Brockie won 8-0.

Sierra Pacific travels to face Corcoran today at 4 p.m. The two teams have shared the league title the last two years and split the last two Valley titles with Sierra Pacific winning last year. This match will be sure to determine a lot going forward this season.
