HANFORD – Hanford High’s Paulette Maskarino shot a one-over 37 to win the final West Yosemite League girls golf match of the season on Monday at Kings Country Club.

Maskarino edged Redwood’s Christina Trujillo by one stroke.

Redwood won the tournament with a team score of 231 to claim the league title. Hanford West was second on Monday with a team score of 275, edging Hanford by six strokes.

Lemoore finished fourth on Monday with a team score of 288. The Tigers were second in the league standings.

The Huskies were led by Hannah Facchini’s 41. Also breaking into the scoring were Allison McKenna, 51; Jennifer Porter, 54; Madison Nuanes, 59; and Alexa Lemos, 70.

For Hanford, in addition to Maskarino, it was Vanessa Lopez, 51; Katelin Mello, 63; Natalie McMillan, 64; and Missy Pina, 66. Hanford finished third in the standings.

Lemoore was led with a 44 by Dani Kinder. She was followed by Ashley Andrada, 52; Jayda Olaes, 60; Audra Paz, 63; and Lizzy Hines, 69.

Hanford West qualified for the Central Section Division III championships next Tuesday at Lemoore Golf Course.


SP 3, Granite Hills 0

PORTERVILLE – The Golden Bears improved to 18-1 on the season with the 25-9, 25-8, 25-19 East Sequoia League win.

Amber Mendes had nine ace serves, five digs and five kills for Sierra Pacific. Courtney Moore added eight kills.

Rafaela Macias had six kills and five aces. Ashley Mendes and Jamee Williams had nine assists each.

The Bears are at Woodlake on Wednesday.


Huskies at Woodlake

VISALIA – Hanford West frosh-soph boys cross country team had another strong outing at the Woodlake Invitational at Kaweah Lake taking first in the boys competition.

The team was led by Josh Guzman’s 2nd place finish at 17:20 over the 5,000 meter course.

Dante Longoria finished third at 17:28, Patrick Perez 11th at 18:36, Chris Mendoza 26th at 19:43, Nick Molina 32nd at 20:04 and Derrick Lanham 40th at 21:03.

The frosh-soph girls were led by Sarah Porter’s eighth place finish at 22:45 and Sonia Guterriez 12th at 23:23.

The varsity girls were led by Lizbeth Rojas 35th place finish at 24:13.

Hanford West will be hosting Mt. Whitney and Redwood at Hanford West on Wednesday at 4 p.m.


Redwood 13, Hanford 12

VISALIA – A pair of Colton Fleming to Cole Taber touchdown passes weren’t enough as Hanford High’s freshman football team lost 13-12 to Redwood on Thursday.

The duo hooked up for scores of 80 and three yards in the first half. Fleming ended the game 11-of-25 passing for 193 yards and Taber had three catches for 102 yards.

Hanford plays at Golden West Thursday.
